Why choose Designs for Dementia?
Designs for Dementia is a small business based in the United Kingdom. We are a creator of Dementia Accessible Activities and Books. We were founded in November 2023 to provide high quality activity products to people living with dementia and their care givers.
Whilst working as a health care assistant with people living with dementia we discovered that a large proportion of dementia activity books are not designed to be dementia accessible. Some were more suitable as children’s activities books and others were so complex that they didn’t cater for many levels of abilities. The colours, fonts and layouts rarely conformed to guidance on making documents dementia accessible and as a result these books were not useful for a care giver or a person living with dementia. This is why Designs for Dementia was started.
Our first book, the “Countries and Places Edition” is designed from scratch by us for people living with dementia. It is printed in A4 with full colour pages throughout. The text has been written in a clear font, with spacing and colours to follow guidance on dementia accessibility. Throughout there are questions to stimulate conversation with a care giver about travel and countries. In its first month of sales it has been warmly received by people working in dementia care and in the community.
Our goal is to release a series of books and activities where each one is made to be as engaging and enjoyable for a person living with dementia and their care givers as possible.
